A Misplaced Wonderland
No time to stop and ask What is the cause of lightning? I’ve tried a dozen times before To see my way to the small door’s opening, But catch myself and look no more.
The Indivisible, under God, Lost its meaning years ago, The understanding between my mouth and eyes Is blown away with drifts of snow.
Deep cuts in the walls spell out my fate, And that is all I seem to learn, The deepest meanings I understate And wait to watch my phrases burn.
The door has closed, I see it now, The possibilities turn from me, Too late to search with my long neck bowed, Some other little girl has taken the key.
Whatever the danger, agony, delight, Is hid behind that small wood door, It is time to move on, my soul in flight, To find my own from years before.
