I Live in a World
Inspired by the LHS Peace Rally and Teach-In on March 5, 2003
I live in a complicated world. I live in a world where people can do anything, be anyone they want; and yet, at the same time, they can’t. I live in a world where hatred and love thrive together under the same sky, most curiously and most inharmoniously. I live in a world where some children fight, some children prosper, and some children starve, And only their parents are to blame. I live in a world where dreams can either come true or be completely shattered in a matter of pitiful seconds. I live in a world with ridiculous borders, where pain and suffering exist encouraged by wealth and happiness. I live in a world with mountains and rivers and trees and flowers and sunshine and nuclear bombs and poisonous gas. I live in this world, and my life is good. But at night, when I look out my window, I see the same stars that make up the ceilings of the homeless.
